One of the aspects of the heavy recession that has hit the world's economy lately is the fact that some services which where expensive before, have become cheap (the need for customers has pushed many businesses to lower prices and costs). Take driving lessons prices, for example. Though the need to hold a driver's license in order to get a job still pushes people to register to driving schools, most people whose career does not require to hold a driver license still use public transportation or, even better, come to work on bike . Also, in my personal opinion, driving lessons prices today might still be going down in the future as the economy might be getting into an even deeper recession. This is also given to the the fact that the motoring industry is coming out with easier to drive cars each day.
I know this also given to the fact that I work at an insurance group handling daily tens of car insurances and in constant need to be updated in relation to each car's performances and to the appearance of new cars on the market.
Also, in my opinion, another thing might be contributing to the lowering of driving lessons prices, the fact that many people are turning to scooters as a faster and easier to handle vehicle in cities with heavy traffic, mostly because they need to be sure they get on-time at work and do not have problems either with traffic or with finding a parking place, or on the road anyhow.
In some contries, driving lessons prices have already fallen down by up to 90% of the previous costs, this also because of the abovementioned motivations.
As I mentioned before, in my opinion, driving a car today and holding a driver's license might not be a fundamental advantage in order to be chosen for a particular job or career. But, it depends on the position the candidate is looking to fulfill. Of course the ability of driving a car and being able to move anywhere without needing public transportation or to rely on other drivers is still an important requirement, but I do not thing it's a fundamental one (depending, as I mentioned before, on the job or career chosen). To this, we can also add the fact that, because of fuel costs continuously rising, many companies are trying to find alternative ways of travelling for their employees.
